What is a Podcast?
Basically, a podcast is a radio show that you get, on demand, through the internet.
The Oxford Dictionary defines it as: A digital audio file of speech, music, broadcast material, etc., made available on the internet for downloading to a computer or portable media player; a series of such files, new instalments of which can be received by subscribers automatically.
Listening on a Computer
Most podcasts have a website where you can play each episode directly using a built-in player. You listen with your computer’s speakers or through headphones connected to your computer.
Listening on your Smartphone
As described above, you can probably play a podcast directly from your website browser on your smartphone. However most newer smartphones come with a build-in podcast player app which is more convenient. Listening in your Car
Many newer cars can simply stream your smartphone’s audio through the car’s sound system via Bluetooth. Other cars have their own internet connection so you can play the podcast directly.
If you do not have Bluetooth, you can often connect your smartphone using an audio wire that goes from your phone’s headphone jack to your car’s audio system.
Listening on a Smart Speaker
Smart Speakers like Sonos, Google Home, or Amazon Alexa can easily stream a podcast directly.
Follow a Podcast
If you follow to a podcast, new episodes will automatically be downloaded to your computer or smartphone and, depending on your settings, will notify you when new episodes are available. We have a page with specific instructions on how to follow a podcast.
